MUSCATINE, Iowa – Thursday Oct. 26, 2017 – This year has been filled with success for the Des Moines Menace Academy 14U boys. They claimed the state’s indoor and outdoor titles this past winter and spring, and after stepping it up this fall as members of the Midwest Regional League (MRL), they sealed a division championship last weekend.
A 4-0 win on Saturday over SC Waukesha (Wisc.) clinched first place in an eight-team group composed of top Region-II clubs – Sporting Kansas City Academy, Sporting Omaha FC, Lou Fusz (St. Louis) and the Chicago Fire Juniors, to name a few.
The Menace finished 6-1-0 with 18 points (eight more than three teams sharing second place) in the PQ Division West Red.
“Hard work brings success,” head coach JR Fernandes said. “The players have been working extremely hard, and their passion for the game is always present. I am very proud of this group for the way they respect the game and play for each other.”
For next spring, the team has earned a place in the eight-team Premier-I Division, comprising the top four teams from both the East and the West divisions of Region-II.
